Which photographs print well on a candle

A candle label is a small rectangle wrapped around a curve, lit from behind by a flame. Photographs that work on a phone screen do not automatically work here.

• One or two subjects, close in. Group shots of twelve people shrink to unrecognisable at label size.
• Bright, evenly lit images. Backlit silhouettes and dim indoor shots lose their shadow detail on matte stock.
• Plenty of contrast between subject and background — a black dog against a dark sofa disappears.
• Original files, not screenshots or images forwarded through chat apps, which strip resolution.

If your picture is borderline, we will say so on the proof rather than print it and hope. Sending a second option up front saves a day.

Ordering a photo candle, step by step

1. Pick your jar size and scent on the product page.
2. Upload the image and add any wording — a name, a date, a short line.
3. We set the label, color-correct if needed, and email a proof, normally the same working day.
4. Approve it and we print, apply and pack. Shipping follows within two business days.

Keeping the label looking right

Printed labels do not like direct sunlight or a sink. Keep the candle out of a south-facing windowsill, wipe the glass rather than washing it while the label is on, and trim the wick to a quarter inch before each burn so soot never reaches the top of the label.

Common questions

What resolution does my photo need to be?

At least 1200 pixels on the short edge. Send the original file from your camera roll rather than a version forwarded through a messaging app.

Will the photo fade as the candle burns?

No. We print on a waterproof synthetic label stock rated for the warmth of a jar candle, so it does not curl, yellow or wick oil.

Can I see the candle before it prints?

Yes — every photo order gets a digital proof by email and nothing prints until you approve it.
