What to write on a personalized candle

The best wording is short and specific. A candle label holds around 120 characters comfortably; past that the type shrinks and the whole thing starts to look like a certificate.

• A name alone, set large — the most requested and the hardest to get wrong.
• Name plus date for weddings, births, retirements and anniversaries.
• A private line: the phrase one person in the room will recognize.
• A house rule or a toast for a new home, a new job or a leaving gift.
• For sympathy gifts, a name and two dates, with no message at all. Restraint reads as respect.

Matching the candle to the occasion

Scent carries as much meaning as the wording, and the wrong pairing is jarring. A few combinations we suggest most often:

• Weddings and engagements — clean florals or a soft white tea; nothing that competes with the venue.
• New home — cedar, fig or a warm amber that reads as settled rather than seasonal.
• Sympathy — linen, vanilla or unscented. Grieving households are sensitive to strong fragrance.
• Thank-you and teacher gifts — citrus and herbal blends, which almost nobody dislikes.
• Birthdays — pick the loud one. This is the occasion for it.

Personalized candles in quantity

Event orders — favors, place settings, corporate gifting — run on one proof for the batch with a per-candle name list supplied as a spreadsheet. We set the type once, merge the names and send you a sample sheet before anything prints.

Allow a week from proof approval for anything over 50 pieces. Everything is poured to order in small batches, so there is no warehouse to pull from.

What is under the label

100% soy wax, lead-free cotton wicks, phthalate-free fragrance, hand-poured. The wax matters for a gift: soy burns cooler and longer than paraffin, so a personalized candle given in March is still being lit in July.
