Celebrate the Dog Days of Summer with Us
Celebrate the Dog Days of Summer with Us
Summer is a very active time for many families. In addition to the kids being off from school, we get to enjoy a lot more time outside with friends, family and our very furry friends. Dogs love to swim, hike, picnic — they’ll do just about anything to hang out with their human friends. This August, why don’t we do something for them as well? They’re always here for us; now it’s time to be there for them. The Value of a Well-Trained Dog One of the ways that we can help our pups is to invest our time in training them to behave in an acceptable manner. A well-trained dog will: Be less likely to end up in an animal shelter. Can participate more fully with their “pack” since they will have impeccable manners Not become a nuisance in the neighborhood Save you money on your homeowner insurance if you obtain a Canine Good Citizen Certificate from a reputable trainer Everyone in the family needs to have a role, including your dog. Taking the time to teach them the skills they need and everyone will be happier. Ways You Can Celebrate Locally Custom Candle Co. has been committed to helping animals lead better lives for too many years to count.  which is why we donate $2 from each sale of our pet products to our local SPCA. Other forms of donations include volunteering time and goods such as blankets, canned foods, etc. Our Westchester SPCA is having a “Clear the Shelter” day on August 17th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.There are so many dogs looking for their forever home. Your new best friend could be waiting for you. The Monroe SPCA has setup a way for people to help the animals at their no-kill shelter through sponsorships. These donations helps them to defer the cost of surgery, medical care, pet food and other business expenses. They also accept corporate sponsorships and can provide necessary tax deduction documentation. National Dog Day is on August 26th. If you own a dog, take a minute to give them a special treat, belly rub or other dog-friendly confirmation that they are loved and appreciated. Summer Is Ending … But Our Sales Aren’t!
Summer Is Ending … But Our Sales Aren’t!
Time really flies when you’re having fun — and we’ve had a great season! We hope that you did as well. As you know, we: Appeared in P.O.W.E.R. magazine Won the Best in Westchester (yea!) Met great people at the Best of Westchester party , and We’re keeping the party going with our 15% off our recycled bottle candles. I know, I know — with so many great recycled candles, how can anyone pick just one? At Custom Candle, we love to help our customers find the right candle for the right moments in their lives.  So here are two of our favorites:   Summer in a Bottle This candle can hold it’s own as a decorative piece. It’s floral design even once the candle is finished. When we’re locked in the cold of winter, these pieces will serve as a wonderful reminder that the sun will come out again in all it’s glory in just a short time. When you order your candle pick a color and scent that work for you. We have lots of summer scents from which to choose. When you visit one of our stores, be sure to ask about the Lemon Verbena or Fresh Linen scents.  For a full list of scents and colors, as well as wholesale purchasing, visit our Brandboom catalog. Just another way to keep the summer alive!   Summer’s End: Labor Day This is a candle that represents the spirit of our nation. The Taconic Distillery Bourbon Whiskey Candle boldly wears it’s colors. A perfect gift for the patriot minded as well as foxhound lovers. (We did a little research and found that they the company uses the foxhound as their mascot because it was one of the first dog breeds sent to the Crown Colonies, which ties in nicely with National Dog of Day.) This candle would pair up brilliantly with our Apple Oak scent which is a blend of McIntosh and Granny Smith apples with floral undertones and a hint of fresh oak leaves. Our stock is limited, so hurry on over and get yours before they’re gone.
Scents Can Lead to Less Stress in Life
Scents Can Lead to Less Stress in Life
Getting ready to head back to school can be a stressful time for everyone. With so many schedules to juggle, deadlines to meet and commitments to fulfill we all need a way to chill out for a minute. There are many ways to get our brains to relax such as pleasing visuals, sounds, textures and scent. Let’s focus on scents, since this is one of the easiest ways to connect to emotional centers in the brain. How Our Sense of Smell Affects Our Moods Our sense of smell is very powerful. Studies have shown that our brains share common structures to process both odors and emotions. This commonality allows odors to modulate our moods, the way that we process information and, to some extent, our behavior. (1)  Our sense of smell is very sensitive and we can use that knowledge to help us reduce anxiety, create a feeling of safety and so much more. Let’s explore popular scents that you can incorporate into your home, office and car. Scents Produce Different Results As with most things in life, one size doesn’t fit all. If you’re driving a car, you wouldn’t want to be surrounded by scents that make you sleepy. Conversely, if you need to go to sleep you don’t want to be around scents that energize, so we’ve broken down scent suggestions by intent. Increase Focus/Concentration Essential oils have actually been shown to improve one’s focus and concentration over time.(2)  I prefer a peppermint zinger to get my brain alert, but here are some other ones that you can try: Basil. This scent was put to the test back in 2012 and found to improve mental alertness by 21% when used continuously over a three week time period. Patchouli. This scent has been tested and the results show that it naturally relieves stress when applied to the temples of the head. Having less stress allows our brains to focus on the task in front of us. Rosemary. Used in aromatherapy to improve thinking ability and mental alertness. Sage. This oil is thought to enhance memory and thinking ability. Researchers are so intrigued by its attributes that feel it deserves more attention as it may contain a compound that might prevent Alzheimer’s and dementia. Help You Sleep We’ve all experienced restless nights, but were you aware that adding this fragrance in the bedroom may relax you enough to fall into a restful slumber? (3) Here are a few scents to consider: Lavender. This is a well-known scent that helps relax the body and reduce anxiety. Vanilla. Aside from it’s delicious smell, vanilla has been shown to lower the body’s heart rate and blood pressure when released into a room. Jasmine. Looking for a good night’s sleep? Then this is the scent for you. According to tests, people who inhaled the fragrance experienced a deeper sleep, less movement and better quality of rest! Bring Back Good Memories I don’t know about you, but most of my best childhood memories are tied to food. Coming from a large family, there was always a fresh pie (apple being my personal favorite), cakes, breads, um, I’ll stop here because I’m making myself hungry, but you get the idea. Here are some scents to consider: Apple Oak reminds me of those apple pies I mentioned a moment ago. It’s like a blend of MacIntosh and Granny Smith apples with a bit of orange, peach and pineapple scents mixed in to really bring the scent to life. Banana Nut Bread. Well, enough said. It’s hard to improve on this delicious aroma. It’s like you’ve just removed the bread loaf from the oven and are waiting for it to cool. The scent is amazing and makes me feel like home. Pumpkin Chia. I’m a loyal apple pie consumer, but the blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange peel with a hint of clove and black tea reminds me of crisp autumn days and Halloween preparations. Ways to Incorporate These Scents Into Your Life Unfortunately most of us don’t live in a field of flowers that these essential oils come from, so we’ll have to find other ways to reap the benefits. You could buy essential oils to keep in your pocket or purse, but that will probably get old quickly. In the home or office the easiest way to surround yourself with these scents: Aromatherapy Necklace: Some people have found that adding an essential oil to their necklace helps them remain calm and reduces stress.  Soaps: Showering in your favorite scent is one way to get your day off to a great start. Diffuser: Diffuser kits with natural reeds will disperse the scent for months. As a matter of fact nowadays you can find quite a  few unique diffusers such as CBD, pet diffusers, as well as traditional floral scents. Highly Scented Candles: Highly scented candles give off the scent even when they are not lit. For this reason, many people have highly scented soy candles simply for the decorative effect they provide. You can order candles in the scents that you prefer in a variety of sizes such as tea lights, tins, tumblers, jars and unique containers. Let us help transform your home and office with scents choices that will help you breathe easier and reduce your stress levels. This will bring you peace not only at home, but everywhere you go. Volunteers Makes Everything Better
Volunteers Makes Everything Better
September 11th means different things to different people. For many it is a time of sorrow and remembrance of lost loved ones. For others, it is a symbol of hope as we remember how we helped each other during this fearful time. We are reminded of what can be accomplished when we look beyond our individual circumstances. Neighbors united to do the work that needed to be done. And who can forget the way people volunteered in droves to assist in search and rescue alongside the first responders? Then there were the volunteers from all over showed their support by donating goods and services. And they did it because they wanted to help their neighbors. Why Volunteers Matter Volunteers matter all the time. And not just when there is an emergency either. According to statistics from the National & Community Services, the work done by volunteers has helped fund scholarships, raise funding for local projects and the more. Volunteering not only helps local communities. It helps the volunteers as well. Studies have shown that volunteering: Boosts self-esteem while creating strong social ties that can help one through trying situations. Builds relationships with other volunteers. Volunteering helps you to make more connections. It helps to help more people than you would normally meet throughout your life. Contributes to a longer life, less cardiovascular disease, fewer memory problems and lots of social interaction that keeps loneliness at bay. How to Start Volunteering The hardest thing about volunteering is making a commitment to yourself to spend one to two hours a week helping others. The easiest things about volunteering is that the need is great and there is a volunteer opportunity for almost any interest you enjoy. Here are just a few ideas that may interest you: Animal Rescue Shelters National Parks Food Pantries Local Libraries Art Museums Retirement Homes Red Cross We, as a company and individually, are very active in showing our appreciation to the communities in which we live. For example, we do fundraising and awareness drives for breast cancer, support local animal shelters and have setup partnerships with wineries and bars to recycle their bottles into our candle collection which helps reduce the load on landfills. Do you know the best thing about volunteering? It’s one of the few win-win situations around. Whenever we help others, we somehow end up benefiting in unexpected ways. Our society would not be as strong as it is without folks, just like you and I, willing to help those in need. Get started and volunteer today — VolunteerMatch.org is a great place to start. It’s Time to Be Younited Against Breast Cancer
It’s Time to Be Younited Against Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is disease that strikes both women and men – yep, guys have breasts too! Amongst those being diagnosed this year in the United States alone will be: 2,670 men268,600 women This year breast cancer will be the cause the death of: 500 men41,760 women These aren’t statistics that we like to think about, but this is the reality of the disease right now. But it doesn’t have to be in the future because there’s things that we can do to help fight it. Breast Cancer Awareness Month “When my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer I looked for all the information that I could find to help her stay strong while she battled the disease.  My mother’s struggle with the disease inspired me to do more, not just for her, but also for other men and women that were going through the same journey. We partnered with the American Cancer Society (ACS) in 2015 and have hosted the Making Strides walk in Westchester, Real Men Wear Pink as well as a successful fundraising gala in 2016 and 2019. We do this because we know with everyone Younited we can make a difference and fight breast cancer successfully. Since 1989, increased awareness of warning signs, mammograms and research, the death rate has been in decline.” – Marcie Manfredonia Siciliano (Founder of Custom Candle Co) How You Can Help Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women, so now is the time to make a difference. Although the “Big C” is formidable, if we keep chipping away at it one day our children (and their children) may be able to survive this disease at even greater rates. If we each do one thing to further the cause we’ll keep making strides to a cure. Here are some ways to help: Volunteer: There are many ways to help as a volunteer including such as driving a cancer patient to their treatments, join in community events like Making Strides, Relay for Life are just a few things that we  can do. Donate: Thinking of donating? There are many options available from monthly donations, IRA Charitable Rollovers, Memorial Giving and more. Fundraise: This is one of my favorite ways to support research. Thus far we have participated in: Real Men Wear Pink, Making Strides and Diamond Gala, but there are many others that organizations and individuals can lend a hand. Shop to Save Lives:  Many companies, including ours, has partnered with to support the ACS by donating proceeds from our customer’s breast cancer awareness candles. This year, we’ve added a tumbler candle that can be personalized with the photograph of your loved one on the container. Celebrate a Loved One:Your gift can recognize milestones in a cancer survivor’s life or express the sense of loss when someone loses their battle with this disease. Once your gift is received, the Society will send a card to the honoree or family acknowledging your gift. There are many ways that we can work together to find a cure for breast cancer. In the meantime ladies (and gentlemen) keep doing those self-checks because the best way to beat breast cancer is to discover it early. Live a healthy lifestyle, eat well and laugh often. Let’s do our best this October to make a difference! It’s Pumpkin Time!
It’s Pumpkin Time!
Autumn is such a brilliant time of year. The days become cooler. Children are back in school of nearly all ages and sizes. Order comes in where Summer chaos reigned. We enjoy the Fall bounty — apple tarts, pumpkin pies and oh so many other goodies! The leaves change from green to pale yellow, cinnamon reds and shades of orange. The grass is no longer the enemy as the lawnmower gives way to the leave blower to tame the now falling leaves. The brightly colored beach ball surrenders its hold on us  as now the brown pigskin on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays commands our time now. Autumn. Autumn hayrides and haunted houses are on the way. This Autumn, we have a large collection of harvest time scents and decorative candles coming your way. Let’s take a moment to look at a few of our favorites, both past and present. Decorate with Pumpkin Candles Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere:  This year we have our very own Halloween patch of choices for you to choose from: Cement pumpkins that are really authentic-looking. These candle comes with a top that you can use to extinguish the flame or after the candle has been spent, it can be used as a decorative piece all year round. Just too adorable! Shiny ceramic pumpkins that really enhance a space. We really love the polka dotted pumpkins and the burning time (almost 250 hours) means that we’ll always have light. Wax pumpkins are also available for traditionalist who like their candles in all their waxy glory. We’ve left these beautiful pumpkins unscented for our customers who love the look, but don’t need an extra fragrance in their home. Spooky Candles: It wouldn’t be Halloween without the spooky, so this year we have a ghostly ghoul of a candle, along with a little Trick or Treat and Boo! to keep visitors hopping as they come by for their candy tribute. Perfect Cupcake Toppers: Last, but not least — since we sell out every October — are these cupcake candles.  Choose the black cat, pumpkin, bat or ghost candles to top off your pastries. Can’t choose just one? Not a problem, just mix and match them to suit your audience. Of course, these candles are unscented … I mean who can compete with your tasty treats? Scents of Autumn The harvest season wouldn’t be complete without scents of the season. Here’s what we have in store for you: Toasted Pumpkin Spice: Comforting and sweet with just the right amount of spice, our Toasted Pumpkin Spice fragrance will remind you of autumn festivals, pumpkin carving, and bonfires. Pumpkin Chai:  is a sophisticated fall fragrance with an invigorating spice flourish. Fragrant top notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange peel intermingle with the clove and black tea. Baked pumpkin makes up the heart of the fragrance, while vanilla and graham cracker base notes add a creamy, toasty character. And remember, we’d love to see how you’ve used our candles this Halloween. Share your pictures to Instagram and tag us @customcandleco. We’ll repost your photo on our social media feeds and help you show off your style.
Light a Candle for Peace
Light a Candle for Peace
In 1981, the United Nations unanimously established September 21st as the International Day of Peace. This day is devoted to: “Strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.“ Since this is an international holiday, there are many different ways in which people can show their hope that one day we will live in a world where people are at peace with each other and the living beings in nature. Ways to Commemorate the International Day of Peace People all over the world have developed their own traditions around this concept, so it may be a bit overwhelming which is why we have a few ideas few ideas to get you into the swing of things. A Minute of Silence/Moment of Peace. Around the world at 12:00 Noon in each time zone to create a Peace Wave around the world. Support Your local Roots & Shoots groups.  Founded by Dr. Jane Goodall, who has been a U.N. Ambassador since 2002 as she inspires us to live in harmony with nature and each other. One of our local Westchester groups did this by fundraising efforts for wolves. Practice the theme of “Climate Action for Peace” in daily life. Use this day to give back to nature. It can be as simple as planting a tree or reusing plastic and glass containers to reduce the landfills. If you have kids you may want to pick a campaigns that can be done as a family such as the Wave of Hope which shares ways that we can help protect the oceans. Light a Candle. Millions of people around the world will be lighting a candle  our commitment to achieving this for everyone. When you light your candle you may want to consider choosing peaceful/calming scents that have woodsy scents, lavender, vanilla and other scents of home and safety. We hope that these ideas have inspired you to consider ways to promote peace in your home, your local community and ultimately the world at large. “One small step for peace, one giant leap for humanity.”  Let’s take that small step together.   Resources:https://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/un/international-peace-dayhttps://internationaldayofpeace.org/get-involved/https://www.rootsandshoots.org/campaigns
Celebrate Your Pet this Holiday Season
for Thanksgiving and enjoy fun memories during Christmas or Hanukkah. As always, don’t forget to give your furry friends love and attention, perhaps even a little present. Some celebrations you may not be aware of this time of year are the National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week (Nov. 3-9th) and the National Cat Lover’s Month (December). Ways You Can Celebrate Your Pet During the Holidays Show your appreciation for Animal Shelters by volunteering your time. As a volunteer, you can clean the animals’ living spaces and even play with dogs and cats. Celebrate National Cat Lover’s month by adopting a cat, if you really do love them. Donate your time or money to your local SPCA location.  As many of our supporters and customers know, here at Custom Candle Co, we do all we can to promote the SPCA and spread the word on protecting animals. Just a couple of days ago, the company’s founder attended the Top Hat and Cocktails Gala. This year the SPCA celebrates its achievement of rescuing nearly 4,200 animals. Here are more ways Custom Candle Co. supports SPCA and animal shelters throughout the nation. Ways We Celebrate Our Pets We donate $2.00 to the nearest SPCA location for every sale exceeding $10.00 of all our pet products. We are always coming up with new pet products to sell, so we can donate even more to SPCA. Some of our new products are the Cat Candle Odor Eliminator, Dog Candle Odor Eliminator, Dog Lavender and Apple Shampoo, and so much more. We volunteer our time and goods to SPCA so they can provide for cats and dogs in their facilities. If you do not already know, Custom Candle Co. is not only committed to protecting animals, but also the environment. We stay as “green” as possible with all our merchandise. We make it our mission to create all-natural candles with recycled bottles. These bottles and other containers are given a second life, making our custom candles that much more unique.
Decorating Ideas for this Holiday Season
Decorating Ideas for this Holiday Season
It is that time of year again when the weather turns cold and nature seems to rest. As the leaves fall and the snow blankets the earth, it is natural to spend more time in your home where it is warm. This holiday season, make your time indoors warm and unforgettable through our ideas on how to decorate. Wreaths It is not a surprise that wreaths have adorned homes for centuries as a means to add delight to any room. They can be an eye-catching display on your front door, greeting your guests with colors through fall leaves or pine cones. Whether you made or bought them, wreaths are a wonderful way to welcome your friends and family to your home. Wreaths do not only have to be on front doors, you can also use them inside against windows or to surround candles in a centerpiece. Centerpieces You can make a living space feel so much more festive with a centerpiece on your console table or in your kitchen. These centerpieces may consist of table runners or table toppers, vases filled with cranberries and orange slices, or candles that smell of apple and oak. Custom Candle Co. recently came out with new scents for this season. You can buy them all in a bundle at a discounted rate. If you enjoy creating your centerpieces, here is a collection of pictures to look at for inspiration. Decorating with Pillows, Blankets and More This year, consider decorating with items outside of the seasonal aisle at decor stores such as wreaths and Christmas trees. Instead, buy several burnt orange or brown pillows for your living room’s love seat to give the room a pop of fall color. Another idea, although it may seem simple, is to add a fuzzy throw you can cuddle up with while drinking a steaming cup of cocoa. Elle Decor has some amazing ideas on how to decorate your home this season that are small and elegant. Going Green There are limitless possibilities to decorating your home when you include natural objects. From a Christmas Tree to pine cones on the forest floor, there are so many options. You do not need a very creative mind to create your own decorations. For example, you can get a clear glass vase, fill it with cinnamon sticks, kumquats, cranberries and pine cones. It’s as simple as that and you have a decoration that will look great in the fall and winter. Do not forget one of the most stunning decorations nature has to offer, evergreen pine bowes. Snip some off a nearby tree and use them to surround one of Custom Candles’ fall or winter candles. Another way to beautify your home is through decorating your front porch. Instantly give a feel of fall with a bale of straw on your porch or a dried bunch of corn stocks. Include pumpkins of various sizes to complement your other fall decorations. Do not let the possibilities with pumpkins stop there, you can also use them inside as pieces to accent your home. Candles It is during fall and winter, that candles are most often included in decorating. It is no wonder that candles have become a traditional decoration during this time of year. They give a certain warm and cozy feeling to any room with their bright flames and festive scents. To continue with the tradition, add a candle to your home through Custom Candles Co. Like their name, this company creates unique scents and styles that will match any festive decorations. Their Frosted White Square candle tied with a red bow is an elegant addition to any home. It comes in a variety of scents like pine, pumpkin ginger, cinnamon and apple. If you would like a more rustic feel, you cannot go wrong with the Travel Tin Candle that smells like banana nut bread. For those of you who have children running around or will during the holidays, sometimes it is too risky to have an open flame like a candle in your home. If that is the case, we’ve got you covered. Take a look at Custom Candle Co’s diffusers like their cedar leaf and lavender scent combined with eucalyptus. Because eucalyptus is a natural odor eliminator, you can place these diffusers in bathrooms to always keep your home smelling wonderful. Remember that Custom Candle Co has got you covered when it comes to scents this fall with their new line of candles and amazing scents exclusively for diffusers. Visit their website today, so you can make this holiday season unforgettable for you and your family.

President, Nationwide Maintenance & General Contracting, Inc.; CBD Live Natural, Inc.; Custom Candle Co., Inc.; and Bedford Hills Wine & Beer Bar When it comes to entrepreneurship, Marcie Manfredonia Siciliano seems to have the Midas touch. Back when Marcie was a newly divorced single mother of four boys ages 3 to 15, she needed to find a way to make a living from her home in the Bronx. (“I was on the verge of going on welfare,” she recalls). Selling her car, she bought a used van and started a power-washing business. That was more than 30 years ago. Siciliano grew the fledgling operation into Nationwide Maintenance, a full-service maintenance and general contracting company that now serves the Tristate area. Her second business sprung from her desire to “save the planet.” Siciliano recycled discarded liquor bottles from bars and restaurants, turning them into decorative holders for soy-based candles. That gave birth to Custom Candle Co., a three-and-a-half-year-old business that now has stores in Bedford Hills, White Plains, and Stamford. Siciliano came up with another brainstorm after a CBD-based product relieved her fibromyalgia pain. That idea became CBD Live Natural, launched a little over two years ago, which sells handcrafted, organic, and vegan products made from hemp. Fittingly, she sells them at yet another business she launched and runs, Bedford Hills Wine & Beer Bar, as well as at the candle stores. “By far, it’s my biggest and most rewarding business,” says Siciliano of CBD Live Natural. Her growing empire employs 65-70 people total, with about $8 million in annual revenue. With the CBD trend in full swing, she’s planning to move on to her next major pursuit: franchising CBD Live Natural stores. BY ELAINE POFELDT Source: Westchester Magazine
